Girl Power Crisis Home
Set in the kingdom of Persia, thousands of years ago is the story of Queen Esther a young Jewish girl who was orphaned, abandoned, adopted only to be kidnapped and YET destined for greatness. Different shades of this story are repeated countless times in the nation of Uganda; a country ravaged by war but more recently by AIDS.
Young beautiful girls are being orphaned, abandoned, sold as child labour sometimes defiled with their futures ever growing bleaker. The evidence is undeniable in our midst with;
• Growing number Teenage girls living away from home as a result of a multitude of factors including effects of HIV. • Growing number of female teenage street children.
• Raising number of female teenage prostitutes.
• Growing number of female inmates in prisons in the country and teenagers involved in violent crime.
• Raising number violence against girl child including rape, defilement, child labour (house girls)

Girl Power’s first success story is a young girl we shall call Peace who lost her mother at the age of 14 and because of a series of bad decisions on her part was expecting her second child at the age of 19 years when she first made contact with Girl Power Ministries.
She arrived looking ill and pale and an emotional wreck. Girl Power contributed to her antenatal and post natal medical bills and she has since given birth to a beautiful baby girl.
Girl Power has now embarked on the journey of reconciling her to her family.

Girl Power Ministries has set in to reverse this trend by setting up a Women’s Crisis Centre to provide shelter and rehabilitation for the victims and equip them with necessary skills to cope in the real world. The Center will address psycho-social, emotional, spiritual needs of young girls below 20 years of age whose lives are slowly being destroyed by these predicaments. The center will provide temporary shelter to victims above 18 years.
Girl Power is a Christian Women’s Interdenominational organization established in July 2005 by Pastor Jessica Kayanja with a vision to equip women to achieve their God given destinies.
BRENDA NAMPA'S STORY
After the death of my father in 2006, all hopes of going back to schoo; came to a stand still since his death involved alot of misunderstandings and my relatives didn't have any hope of taking me back to school. During that period, i got courage and hope to stand knowing that was not the end of life. I went and stayed with my maternal grandmother who encouraged me to pray and fast for my education and later i joined Miracle Centre in January 2007 and got involved in Ministry, not knowing God was about to answer my prayers.
Mummy Jessica took me up and paid my school fess; I was very excited and thanked God who had started a good work in me. I went back home and told my grandmother who could not believe it was done.
That same year July 2007, i started school at Light COllege KAtikamu on the visitation day of the second term. I began serious studies and that term i got 12 points. I knew God would restore all that the devil had stolen.
Beginning of third term, i continued to trust God for better results and though it wasn't easy, but with the help and prayers from Mummy Jessica and her motivation to me the sky was the limit. I was determined to be the head and not the tail. We closed third term S.5 and i excelled with good results to S.6. I believed God that i would appear in the Newspapers. Although Mock exams were performed more poorly than the final exams, in my results i scored 19 points(4BBBD) and i give God the glory.
Special thanks to Ps. Jessica Kayanja and Girl Power Ministries for believing and offering their best to me. I am heading for University Education to pursue a degree in procurement andlogistica or a law course; my options areopen. My advise to my fellow students ius to get good company of friends and believe God, work upon your goals and keep a positive confession no matter the situation don't lose hope, God will come through for you as he did for me. Thank you Girl Power for believing in me, restoring hope and making my dreams come true.
NABUKENYA SHERIFAH'S STORY
Sherifa Nabukenya was brought up in a Christian family though she was born in a family with a rich moslem background. She gave her life to Christ in 2001 while in high school at Light College Katikamu and was on fire for God. Unfortunately during her S.6 vacation she backslid and turned away from the Lord. Sherifah joined a wrong crowd that nearly destroyed her and left her life in a mess. She was forced to leave campus in 2005 due to lack of tuition.
In August 2007 God had mercy on Sherifah once again. During a campus crusade as Pastor Jessica shared her testimony, Sherifah accidentally sauntered into the meeting for a divine appointment with God that forever changed her life. She recommitted her life to Christ andbegan her journey back to destiny.
Pastor Jessica Kayanja took her up as a daughter started paying her tuition at Y.M.c.A for her to pursue a diploma in Tourism and Travel diploma. Sherifah excelled within the course of the year and she was awarded a certificate of Academic Excellence in 2009.
Special thanks to Girl Power Ministries and Pastor Jessica who has never denied any good thing. She has been an inspiration, an encouragement, and motivated Sherifah to greater heights as a darling mother would. Back to Home |
